Entering your business address on your website, Google Business Profile, and other platforms is essential for building credibility and ensuring customers can find you.

However, you also need to list the areas where you provide services.

One thing I constantly see on local Lexington business websites and profiles is that they are missing the area they serve and; therefore, you are leaving it up to the search engines to determine if you are close to where the customer needs you.

People are going to type in "blank" service or provider "near me" and if you don't have your area defined, you might not show up.

Here’s a step-by-step guide for each platform:

1. Website

  • Contact Page: Create a dedicated "Contact Us" page and include your business address, phone number, email, and a contact form.

  • Footer: Add your address in the footer section of your website so it appears on every page.

  • Map Integration: Embed a Google Map on your website for easy navigation. You can do this by searching your address on Google Maps, clicking “Share,” selecting “Embed a map,” and copying the HTML code.

  • Ensure Consistency: Use the same format and details across all platforms to maintain consistency and improve SEO.

2. Google Business Profile

Claim Your Profile:

  • Go to Google Business Profile.

    • Sign in with your Google account or create one.

    • Search for your business and claim the listing, or add a new one if it doesn’t exist.

  • Add/Update Address:

    • Log into your account and select the business you want to manage.

    • Click “Info” on the left-hand menu.

    • Under “Address,” enter your complete address accurately.

    • Use the dropdown to set your business as a storefront or service-area business if applicable.

  • Verify Address:

    • Google may require you to verify the address through a mailed postcard or other methods.

    • Complete the verification to make your listing active.

3. Other Platforms

  • Social Media: Add your address to the "About" section on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn if you operate a physical location.

  • Online Directories: List your address on directories like Yelp, Bing Places, or local chamber of commerce sites to boost visibility.

  • Email Signatures: Include your address in your email signature to reinforce branding and accessibility.

Tips for Success

  • Use a Standard Format: Follow the USPS address format for US businesses to avoid confusion.

  • Double-Check for Accuracy: Ensure there are no typos in your address.

  • Highlight Accessibility: Add notes like "Free parking available" or "Entrance near Main Street" to make it easier for customers to visit.
